By Andrej Wajda with Teresa Izewska, Tadeusz Janczar, Wienczyslaw Glinski, Tadeusz Gwiazdowski, Stanislaw Mikulski Poland, 1957 Restoration by Malavida Films
By one of Martin Scorsese's most beloved directors, a film that
"is not, as was written, a drama about the useless heroism of the
Polish tradition. The originality of Wajda is to pose itself
in the hinge between personal history and national history where the data
existential (the moral anguish, the undoing of death, the
fear) they become rational, constantly seen in a dimension
political and civil". (M. Morandini)
